Even with comprehensive coverage from your primary medical plan, you will still have some out-of-pocket expenses if you get critically ill, are injured or have an unexpected hospital stay. Supplemental medical insurance offers additional protection to help you cover costs that arise in these situations.

Keep in mind

On their own, supplemental medical plans do not provide comprehensive medical coverage for your day-to-day health care needs. Rather, they are intended to supplement the coverage provided by your primary medical plan.

Accident Insurance

No one plans to have an accident – but it can happen at any moment. Accident insurance supplements your primary medical plan by providing cash benefits in cases of covered off-the-job accidental injuries. You can use this money to help pay for medical expenses not paid by your medical plan (such as your deductible or coinsurance) or for anything else (such as everyday living expenses).

Benefits are paid:

  • Directly to you
  • In addition to any other coverage, like your primary medical plan or an Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) plan

The actual benefits you receive depend on the type of injuries you have and the medical services you need. You receive a cash benefit up to a specific amount for:

  • Accidental death
  • Dismemberment
  • Dislocation or fracture
  • Initial hospital confinement
  • Intensive care
  • Ambulance
  • Medical expenses
  • Organized sports benefit
  • Outpatient physician’s treatment
  • And more
Be Well Benefit

You and any other covered family members are also eligible for an annual $50 wellness benefit when you receive one of the eligible health screenings or preventive services, such as blood tests, chest X-rays, colonoscopies, mammograms, and immunizations. This benefit is a discount on your monthly premiums.

Organized Sports Benefit

Organized sports benefit pays an additional 25% of total benefits if you or a covered dependent is injured while participating as a registered member of an organized sporting activity. Some benefits are excluded from the additional benefit percentage. See the complete list of exclusions in your benefit summary.

Critical Illness Insurance

A serious illness can strike at any time. Critical Illness coverage protects against the financial impact of certain illnesses, such as a heart attack, cancer, or stroke. If you experience a covered illness, you receive a lump-sum benefit payment to help cover out-of-pocket expenses for your treatment that are not covered by your medical plan. You also can use the money to take care of other expenses, such as housekeeping services, special transportation, and child care.

Choose from three benefit amount options:

  • $10,000
  • $20,000
  • $30,000

Coverage is available:

  • Without any health questions
  • For your spouse at 50% of your benefit amount
  • For your children, up to age 26, at 50% of your benefit amount at no additional cost

Benefits are paid:

  • Directly to you
  • Upon diagnosis of a covered serious condition like: heart attack, stroke, coronary artery disease, major organ transplant, end stage renal failure, non-invasive cancer, invasive cancer, skin cancer, advanced Alzheimer’s disease, advanced Parkinson’s disease, benign brain tumor, coma, complete blindness, complete hearing loss, and permanent paralysis

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Hospital indemnity insurance helps protect you financially when you or a covered family member is admitted to the hospital for a covered illness or injury. If you are admitted to the hospital, you receive a lump-sum benefit payment to help cover out-of-pocket expenses for your treatment that are not covered by your medical plan. You also can use the money to take care of other expenses, like household bills. Read this important federally required compliance notice about hospital care insurance.

Benefits are paid:

  • Directly to you
